Abstract : This research paper examines India's persistent hunger crisis despite achieving 75 years of independence, utilising comprehensive econometric analysis through SPSS and EViews software. The study reveals that India currently ranks 105th out of 127 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2024 with a score of 27.3, categorised as "serious" hunger levels. Despite economic growth reaching $2,481 GDP per capita in 2023, approximately 194.6 million Indians remain undernourished, representing 13.7% of the population. The econometric framework employs time series analysis, cross-sectional regression models, and panel data techniques to examine the complex relationship between economic development and hunger outcomes across Indian states. Our analysis reveals dramatic interstate variations ranging from 17.8 (Himachal Pradesh) to 42.6 (Bihar), suggesting that economic growth alone is insufficient without targeted, evidence-based policy interventions addressing structural determinants of malnutrition.
