Abstract : This study critically examines the intersecting domains of energy, international trade, and technological transformation in Tamil Nadu and India over the quarter-century from 2001 to 2025. Focusing specifically on the supply chain ecosystem as an integrating analytical lens, the paper traces how structural shifts in energy generation, particularly the rise of renewable sources, have reshaped industrial production patterns, influenced trade competitiveness, and disrupted legacy supply arrangements. Drawing on official government data, peer-reviewed scholarship, and sectoral reports, the analysis situates Tamil Nadu's trajectory within the broader arc of India's economic modernisation while probing the distributional consequences of this transformation for the middle class, the rural poor, and historically marginalised communities. The paper argues that without deliberate policy intervention addressing energy access inequities, labour market disruption, and the concentration of technology-driven gains, the promise of India's emerging supply chain leadership risks deepening rather than alleviating existing socioeconomic fault lines.
