The Ten-Day Toll: A Macro-Developmental Analysis of the 2026 Persian Gulf War and its Socio-Economic Repercussions on the Global South

Abstract : Purpose: This research investigates the multi-dimensional socio-economic devastation triggered by the first ten days of the 2026 Persian Gulf War. It specifically analyses the "Regressive War Tax" imposed on the Indian economy through the disruption of the Energy-Remittance Corridor. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study employs a Mixed-Methods Empirical Framework, correlating ten days of Brent Crude volatility ($92.15/bbl) with primary field data from a Household Stress Index (HSI) and a Retail Price Volatility Survey across Indian urban markets. A Correlation-Elasticity Model is utilised to quantify the "Logistics Multiplier" affecting essential commodities. Findings: Preliminary results reveal a "Dual-Shock" effect: a 15.9% surge in retail fuel prices has catalysed a 37.1% spike in perishable logistics, while 78% of remittance-dependent households report high financial anxiety. The study identifies a "Systemic Fragility" in India’s import-parity pricing for LPG and fertilisers, threatening long-term food security. Originality/Value: This manuscript provides the first granular, "Human-Centric" data set on the 2026 conflict’s immediate impact on the common man, offering a chaste economic plea for diplomatic de-escalation in the interest of global human capital.
